Happy New Year Fellow Wisconsin Senators

From my family to yours, we hope that this past Christmas season was a good one for one and all, despite the hardships many Americans are going through during these tough economic times. We've gone about as far down in the hole as one can go. Now the only way out is to go up, so let's hope that this coming year and new decade will bring much peace and happiness to everyone.

It seems like such a long time ago that we all got together way back in September and now we're in Wisconsin's famous winter wonderland of frigid cold temperatures and lots of snow. I'm sure you can all agree with me when I say that I am soooooo ready for spring any day now. Time marches on and we just go with the flow.

The good news is that the next Senate meeting will be on January 30th at the Olympia Resort in Oconomowoc and the month will be just about over. I'm hoping that since there isn't a lot of warm outside activities going on that we have a good turnout of Senators at this upcoming meeting. There were about 25 Senators in attendance in La Crosse (which was absolutely awesome) and I'm hoping for just as good a turnout at this meeting.

The Wisconsin Senate is going to be presenting a booth at the Jaycee's project fair on January 30th. In talking with the Jaycee's Executive V.P., Steve Moddie, it was decided that this would be a good way for the Senators to introduce ourselves to the Jaycees and show them who we are and what we can do to help them in their communities.

Our Region VI V. P. Randy Young from Minnesota will be attending our meeting and will also help man our booth during the project fair. He will be available to answer any questions that Jaycees might have. We will also be looking for a few more Senators to help out as well. If you can be available for about 30 to 45 minutes on Saturday morning, please let me know so I can put your name on the list.

Our spring regional will be held in Omaha, Nebraska on March 19th and 20th. As of right now, there are only three of us Senators going and it would be so nice to see more participation from our fellow Wisconsin Senators, so please try to attend this meeting with us. They truly are a lot of fun getting together with other Senators from our seven-state region. The inexpensive registration and motel fees for the weekend are also a nice break on the ol pocket book.

The biggest item on our agenda in Oconomowoc will be getting Senators from Wisconsin to help with two big events coming this year. Our first one will be in Minneapolis on September 24th and 25th. This will the national Senate Board of Directors meeting. There are going to be Senators from all over the country in attendance and we as Region VI are going to do our best to roll out the red carpet for everyone.

At our fall meeting in Sioux Falls a committee was put together to help achieve this goal. We, as a State are looking for as many Senators to attend this meeting and help volunteer in various ways. With this meeting being so close to us, it really isn't that far for people to travel and it is my wish that we get a lot of Senators to attend this event.

Only two weeks after that meeting, Wisconsin will be hosting the regional fall meeting in Milwaukee on October 8th and 9th. The last time we hosted as a state was in Prairie du Chien back in in October of 2006. We will need a lot more Senators helping out at this meeting since we as a state are hosting this event.

PLEASE, PLEASE think about volunteering at one or both of these meetings. We really need as many Wisconsin Senators as possible to help out in any way.

My last meeting for this year will be on May 1st.
We will hold the meeting at Wisconsin Badger Camp once again. We held last year's spring meeting there with the intent of having a clean-up weekend. Unfortunately there were only eight Senators in attendance and no one could stay to help spruce up the camp. This has been one of my goals as President and I will do everything I can to make sure we can help them before the camp opens to the public in June. In talking with the camp director, we can stay in the lodge on Friday and Saturday evenings free of charge and are allowed to use their kitchen facilities to cook our meals. This would be such a great time for all of us to get together before the busy summer activities and vacations get started.

This will also be our election meeting. If you haven't been on the board or would like to get back into a position, this would be the time to step up to the plate. Please give this some serious thought. We have a great group of Senators in our state and as an organization, we can and are doing great things, but we can't do it with the same people all the time.

Let's keep our wonderful group of Senators growing like one big happy family.

In Senate Spirit,
Rhonda
